A review of effective pain management strategies for dentists. The lecture includes the evaluation of patients at risk of Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) and appropriate referral. The pharmacology of opioids and non-opioid analgesics will be emphasized
Objectives:
Upon completion of the program the attendee will be able to:
- Evaluate dental patients with dental pain and prescribe appropriate analgesic regimens
- Recognize dental patients at risk for Opioid Use Disorder/Substance Abuse Disorder and refer them for appropriate evaluation and treatment

At this workshop, dental radiology expert Julie Cleary, RDH, MS Ed will discuss a review of radiation exposure and safety guidelines for dental radiographers, and advantages and disadvantages of different imaging techniques, with emphasis placed on ways to maximize diagnostic benefit while minimizing radiation risk.
Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to:
- Recognize common radiographic exposure errors and how to correct them.
- Value and practice radiation protection procedures relating to the concepts of A.L.A.R.A. and A.L.A.D.A.
- Describe the factors that determine biological effects of radiation in tissue.
- Identify the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s regulations with regard to dental radiography.

1:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.: Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse for Dental Professionals by Steve Neidlinger, CAE
The goal of this course is to help dental professionals gain an understanding of their role as mandated reporters in meeting your legal obligations in the area of child protection as per the Child Protective Services Law (CPSL). Attendees will be able to describe and apply current information on the CPSL, recognize elements and indicators of child abuse and neglect, and demonstrate reporting procedures.
