Ground Level  Strategies for your Practice and Personal Finances

Presented by Wes Read and Greg Maravilla of Practice CFO

Wes and Greg will also walk you through an analysis of your own practice to personalize this experience if you bring certain financial information.

Day 1

  • How to Prepare for Your Exit (Whether you’re selling your practice or not): How to view your practice as a store of equity, not just a source of current income. We’ll explain how practices are valued, and how you can stage your practice for a sale. Even if you don’t intend to sell in the near future, you should treat your practice as if you were. By doing so, you commit to a more rigorous plan of managing your practice finances.
  • Planning your retirement through and after the transition. Determine your readiness!
  • Understanding the transition process: Valuation, Prospectus, Building your Transition Team, Locating a Buyer, Closing the Sale, and Associating Back.
  • Tax Planning through a transition
  • The Dental Service Organization
    • What are they and should you care.
    • Various structural formats of DSO.
    • When does a centralized management function make sense.
    • Tax affects of forming a separate management entity

Day 2

Financial Planning Case Studies

  • Real Life Scenarios: In this module, we’ll be doing workshops. We’ll give you a few scenarios of practice owners with overhead, debt, taxes, family, retirement plans, education funding goals, etc.
  • We’ll identify financial planning best practices to save more, pay less in taxes, and accelerate your financial independence. Much of this content will be applicable to you!
Retirement Plan Design
  • One of the few potential silver bullets for high earning practice owners is a qualified retirement plan. In this module, we’ll dive deeper into retirement plans, primarily 401Ks, Profit Share Plans, and DB plans.
  • Most general financial planners and investment advisors don’t know how to apply and design these types of plans to a dental practice owner. We’ll explain exactly which one is best for your situation.

Day 3

Applied Tax Law
  • In this module, we’ll examine the latest in tax law applicable to dentists.
  • In the same way math and science are only relevant in how they are applied, so is tax law and tax planning relevant as it is applied to save you taxes. The purpose of this module will be to apply specific tax strategies to your situation.
